CVCA Private Equity Explainer Video

After the success of CVCA's private equity explainer video, I was tasked to create another animated explainer video focusing on venture capital. As the motion graphic designer of this project, I once again created storyboards, style frames, illustrations, icons, and was responsible for sourcing background music.

When approaching the creation of this project, I made sure to be consistent with the style and feel that I established in the private equity video. This is evident in the use of the same colour palette, characters, icons, and illustrations. Like the private equity video, I created storyboards to breakdown the story elements into animations. Once the storyboards were finalized and approved I moved on to creating style frames.

Style Frames

The Process

Once the style frames were approved, I organized all the vector art in illustrator to their appropriate layers. The illustrator files were then imported into after effects and ready for animation.

In After effects I worked with multiple pre-compositions to help organize my timeline and to speed up the animation process. Dealing with multiple compositions and illustrator files can become a bit confusing, therefore organization is key in order to stay focused when creating multiple animations.

Similar to the private equity video, I took advantage of the five transformation properties to create the animations found within the venture capital video. Along with the transformation properties, I also utilized masking and effects found in after effects to create smooth animations. The use of masking and the fill effect can be seen in the timeline (seed funding) scene. The masking can be seen in revealing the timeline, while the fill effect can be seen on the Canadian map and globe.

Within this project I also focused on the transitions between scenes, I wanted to create smoother transitions between one section of the animation to the next.
